Each of us knows that proper care after the trauma is vital. But sometimes, it’s hard to follow all the doctor’s recommendations for recovery. But you are sure it’s not about you. You’ve got a concussion but don’t know what you can do and what you should avoid? It’s not a problem.

Regarding this condition, much information is floating around on things to do while you have a concussion. But where can you find accurate information? This blog post will explore the latest research on condition care and provide some tips for patients. Keep reading to learn more!

What You Should Do After Concussion

If you have recently suffered a disease, you must take the necessary steps to ensure proper healing. After an incident, it is important to take the right steps, as it directly affects how your treatment and your general well-being will be:

  • Therefore, first of all, you should stop moving, sit down as you feel comfortable or the environment allows, and check your head for injuries.
  • If you are having trouble with coordination, try to take a position so that you can relax your neck and body. Try not to close your eyes so as not to lose consciousness.
  • Call 911 and wait for help.
  • If you are close to home, you can go there if you are able. It is also recommended to drink water in and avoid loads on the body.

As for what you should do during treatment, here are some activities you can do with a concussion to speed up your recovery.

What you should do after concussion

Have a Rest

When you’ve damaged your head, your brain works hard to heal. This means that you need to rest your body and mind. Physical activity can make symptoms worse and prolong healing time. So the best thing for a concussion treatment can be to take it easy for a few days. Remember, no strenuous and mental activity.

Sleep a Lot

Like your body, your brain needs time to heal after a concussion. Getting rest is crucial. You may need to sleep more than usual for the first week.

Drink a Lot Of  Water

Another good thing to do with a concussion is to drink plenty of fluids. Staying hydrated is important for all aspects of health. Drinking lots of water helps your brain function at its best and speeds up recovery time.

Keep Diet

Eat Healthy Foods. Eating a nutritious diet helps your body recover from injuries, including concussions. Focus on eating plenty of:

  • Fruits.
  • Vegetables.
  • Whole grains.

Use Computer Or Phone Less

Screen time can make symptoms worse. If you need to use a computer or phone, limit your use to 20 minutes at a time and take breaks every 20 minutes.

Do Brain Exercises

You can help your brain recover by doing exercises that improve cognitive function. These activities help retrain your brain and improve your thinking skills.

Some examples of cognitive exercises include:

  • Doing puzzles.
  • Playing memory games.
  • Doing crosswords or Sudoku.
  • Practising mindful meditation.
  • Taking online brain training courses.

Take Care About Mental Health

Feeling anxious, irritable, or depressed after a concussion is common. Consult your doctor or a mental health expert if you are stressed. They can assist you in managing your symptoms and returning to your normal life.

N.B. What to do for possible concussion? You should sit, call 911, describe the situation and wait for the doctor. If you have water, drink small portions of it.

What not to Do When Concussed

What not to do when concussed

Our brain is the most important organ, so we must take care of it properly. You must listen to your body:

  • If you feel you are tired, it is better to refrain from strong activity and rest more.
  • If, on the contrary, you feel that you have more strength and you are less tired, you can gradually increase your daily activity.

All these steps are very important during the treatment after an injury. But as regards what you should and shouldn’t do after the concussion, you need to avoid strenuous activity, and take it easy for a while. But you shouldn’t just lounge around all day – that’s not good for your brain either. So what should you do after a concussion? Follow these tips to ensure you’re taking care of yourself properly.

Be sure that these tips will definitely help you and you will soon be able to play basketball, rock climb or run in the morning again.

Drive Or Ride a Bike

You shouldn’t drive or ride a bike until your doctor says it’s okay. This is because a concussion can affect your ability to make split-second decisions and react quickly.

Drink Alcohol Or Energy Drinks

Many people ask, Can I drink with a concussion?’. The answer is simple. Limit Alcohol and Caffeine. They interfere with sleep, which is essential for recovery. Avoiding them will help you get the rest you need.

Use Drugs

Avoid using drugs while you’re recovering from a concussion. Medicines can interact with medications and make symptoms worse. They can also interfere with sleep, which is essential for recovery.

Do Heavy Household Chores

If possible, avoid activities that involve the head and neck. They can cause you to damage your health again.

Avoid Activities At All

Also, do not engage in activities that require a lot of concentration and use of the mind. This includes work and study. If you are forced to do this, try to take plenty of breaks and stop if the symptoms recur.

Also, avoid sports where you have to contact other people. This is because you can get injured again.

Avoid Sugar And Reduce Dairy Products

Sugar and dairy products can also increase mucus production and worsen concussion symptoms. Try to avoid these foods while you’re recovering.

Let Your Caregivers Do Everything For You

Wonder what else you can do after a concussion? Now you can do nothing. Let your caregivers do everything for you while recovering from a concussion. This will help you rest and avoid activities that could make symptoms worse.

Just such an amazing staff that makes you feel like part of their family. I’ve been going there for over 5 years now... and each visit I get the very best care and treatments that I have ever received in the 20+ years that I’ve been dealing with severe debilitating migraines. Since i started seeing them the number of my migraines has dropped from 15-20 a month to 2-3 every 3 month. I highly recommend them …they will change your life!read more

Dr. Askari was very kind and explained everything so I could understand. The other staff were nice as well. I would... have gave 5 stars but I was a little taken aback when I checked in and had to pay 600.00 upfront. I think that should have been discussed in a appointment confirmation call or email just so I could have been prepared.read more

I was obviously stressed, needing to see a neurologist. The staff was so patient and Dr. Ansari was so kind. At one... point he told me to relax, we have time, when I was relaying my history of my condition. That helped ease my stress. I have seen 3 other neurologists and he was the only one who performed any assessment tests on my cognitive and physical skills. At one point I couldn't complete two assessments and got upset and cried. I was told, it's OK. That's why you're here. I was truly impressed, and super pleased with the whole experience!read more

Since my first post my thoughts have changed here. It's unfortunate. My doctor and PA were great, but the office staff... is horrible. They never call you back when they say they will, they misinform you, they cause you too much stress wondering what's going on, they don't keep you posted. They never answer the phone. At this point I've left four messages in the last week, and I have sent three messages. Twice from their portal and one direct email. No response. My appointment is on Monday morning at 8:30am, no confirmation on my insurance and what's going on. What the heck is going on, this is ridiculous!I've given up... the stress her office staff has put me through is just not worth it. You can do so much better, please clean house, either change out your office staff, or find a way for them to be more efficient please. You have to do something. This is not how you want to run your practice. It leaves a very bad impression on your business.read more

I had such a good experience with Lone Star Neurology, Brent my MRI Tech was so awesome and made sure I was very... comfortable during the appointment. He gave me ear plugs, a pillow, leg support and blanket, easiest MRI ever lol 🤣 My 72 hour EEG nurse Amanda was also so awesome. She made sure I was take care of over the 3 days and took her time with the electrodes to make sure it was comfortable for me! Paige was also a huge help in answering all my questions when it came to my test results, and letting me know her honest opinions about how I should go forth with my treatment.read more

The professionalism and want to help attitude of this office was present from the moment I contacted them. I love going to this office. The staff is friendly and helpful. The doctor is great. I am getting the best... neurological tests and treatment I have ever had. The only reason I did not give them a 5 star rating is because it is impossible to reach a live person at the office to reschedule appointments. Every time I have tried to get through to the office it says all people are busy and I am sent to a voicemail. If they could get their phone answering fixed, I would give them a strong 5 stars.read more

Dr. Harney is an excellent Dr. I found him friendly , personable and thorough. I evidently am an unusual case. ... Therefore he spent a Hugh amount of time educating me. He even gave me literature to further explain my condition and how to follow up. This is something you rarely get from your doctors. So I am more than please with my doctor and his staff.read more

I have had the best experience at this neurologist's office! For over a year I have been receiving iv treatments here... each month and my nurse, Bobbie is beyond wonderful!! She's so attentive, knowledgeable, caring, and detail oriented. She makes an otherwise uncomfortable experience much more pleasant and definitely puts me at ease! Let me start by saying that I have been coming here for years. Due to my autoimmune disease, I am in this office... once every three weeks for multiple hours at a time. The office is very clean and the staff very friendly. My only complaint would be there communication via phone. They aren't the best at responding if you leave a voicemail and expect a call back. I understand that this is prob just due to the sheer number of alls they receive daily. What I can say I like the best about the office are the people. Bobby who handles my infusions is great. I never have any issues with her setting up my infusions. She is very quick to reply to messages sent via text and if she were to leave then my whole opinion of the office may change. I also enjoy people like Matt, Lauren, and Jodi. I appreciate all that they do for me and without this team I'm not sure I would be as happy as I am to visit the office as frequently as I have to. Please ensure that these folks are recognized as they are what makes my visit to this office so tolerable :).read more
