What is neurological rehabilitation (NR)? Neurological recovery is a specialized approach at our facility. It targets a spectrum of conditions, from Parkinson’s disease to stroke. Our commitment lies in providing comprehensive diagnoses and targeted treatments. It addresses the unique challenges of neurological disorders.

Imagine it as a distinctive journey. Our skilled neurologists and healthcare experts guide it. They collaborate to tailor care plans for individual needs. In this blog, we delve into the intricacies of NR. We demystify the process. We highlight its profound impact on enhancing well-being. Join us in unraveling the mysteries of neurological care for a pathway to optimal health.

Understanding Neurological Rehabilitation

Car accidents leave a lasting impact, affecting both the body and mind. In this exploration, we dissect common neck injuries resulting from these incidents. We delve into the principles of neurological rehabilitation, which are pivotal in the recovery process.

  • Whiplash:

One prevalent injury is whiplash, which occurs when the head abruptly jerks backward and forward during a collision. This motion strains delicate neck structures. It manifests in pain, stiffness, and sometimes neurological symptoms.

  • Herniated Disc:

Another common injury involves the rupture of cushions between vertebrae. It leads to nerve compression. This compression, in turn, results in arm pain, tingling, or weakness.

  • Neurorehabilitation:

This unique area of expertise is focused on helping people with brain or nerve issues. It often deals with problems caused by things like car accidents. The main goal is to make their daily lives better.

  • Principles of Neurological Rehabilitation:

These principles involve a comprehensive and patient-centric approach. Recognizing the uniqueness of each individual’s journey, strategies are tailored for optimum results. At Lonestar Neurology, we prioritize this personalized approach.

  • Neurological Recovery:

The overarching goal is to optimize the healing process after injuries sustained in car accidents. This comprehensive approach includes targeted exercises, therapeutic interventions, and lifestyle adjustments. It aims to facilitate recovery and minimize long-term effects.

Principles of Neurological Rehabilitation

Principles of Neurological Rehabilitation

Neurological recovery is a dynamic process with success rooted in fundamental principles. These principles serve as the bedrock for optimal recovery. At Lonestar Neurology, we embrace these guiding principles. We recognize their pivotal role in restoring and enhancing neurological function.

  • Individualized Approach:

Neurorehabilitation is far from a one-size-fits-all endeavor. Acknowledging the uniqueness of each patient’s neurological challenges. Our experienced team tailors interventions to address specific needs. This personalized approach is crucial, recognizing that diversity defines the path to recovery.

  • Early Intervention Matters:

In the realm of NR, time is of the essence. Early initiation of recovery after neurological injuries significantly influences outcomes. Swift engagement sets the stage for a more effective and streamlined recovery process. It maximizes the potential for positive results.

  • Neuroplasticity in Action:

Harnessing the brain’s remarkable ability. Adaptation and reorganization are fundamental to brain recovery. At Lonestar Neurology, we tap into neuroplasticity through targeted exercises and therapies. This process facilitates the development of new neural pathways, optimizing overall neurological function.

  • Holistic Care Focus:

Comprehensive rehabilitation extends beyond physical exercises. Our approach embraces emotional support, cognitive therapies, and lifestyle modifications as integral components. Recognize the interconnectedness of the mind and body. We foster a holistic environment that addresses multifaceted aspects of neurological well-being.

  • Continuous Assessment:

The journey of neurological recovery is dynamic and requires ongoing evaluation and adjustment. Regular assessments are essential to our approach. They allow our team to monitor progress. We can fine-tune interventions and adapt strategies based on evolving patient needs. This ensures the renewal journey stays responsive to individual milestones and challenges.

We invite you to delve into these guiding principles in the upcoming sections, offering a detailed exploration of each. Join us on this insightful journey into the core foundations of NR. Explore how these principles shape a transformative process.

This process fosters resilience. It empowers individuals on their unique paths to optimal well-being. At Lonestar Neurology, these principles are the essence of our commitment.

We aim to provide comprehensive and individualized care. It goes beyond recovery, focusing on enhancing overall neurological well-being.

Techniques and Approaches in Neurorehabilitation

Neurorehabilitation therapy session

Brain recovery is a dynamic field at the intersection of science and compassion. It employs finely tuned techniques to cater to individuals’ unique recovery needs. This exploration delves into three fundamental approaches embodying neurological rehabilitation principles. These approaches showcase the transformative path to neurological recovery.

Cognitive Rehabilitation Strategies: Nurturing Brain Function

Cognitive renewal (CR) strategies are:

  • Memory Enhancement Exercises:

At the core of CR is the stimulation of memory recall. Engaging in memory-enhancing activities is fundamental to this approach. It aims to foster improvements in cognitive functions. The strategy is targeted and addresses specific cognitive challenges. Ultimately, it paves the way for enhanced mental acuity.

  • Problem-Solving Tasks:

Cognitive development is nurtured by introducing challenging tasks. Encouraging problem-solving skills and mental agility forms a crucial part of CR. These tasks stimulate cognitive functions. It contributes to a more comprehensive recovery of neurological abilities.

  • Multisensory Approaches:

CR extends beyond traditional methods by harnessing multiple senses. The holistic approach offers a well-rounded mental experience. It aims to foster improvement in various cognitive abilities. Engaging multiple senses makes the mental renewal process more immersive. Individuals benefit from a more compelling journey toward cognitive enhancement.

Targeted Exercise Programs for Neurological Recovery

Targeted exercise programs are:

  • Functional Movement Training:

Emphasizing activities mirroring daily life, this approach goes beyond traditional exercises. It aims to improve overall functionality, facilitating a seamless transition to everyday activities. By incorporating real-world movements, functional movement training enhances the practical aspects of rehabilitation.

  • Tailored Workouts:

Customized exercise programs are the cornerstone of targeted renewal, addressing specific neurological challenges. This tailored approach recognizes the diverse nature of neurological conditions. It ensures that each exercise is precisely designed to meet individual needs.

  • Adaptive Equipment Integration:

The effectiveness of exercise programs is further heightened by integrating adaptive tools. These tools not only provide additional support but also promote optimal recovery. This adaptive approach ensures that physical limitations do not hinder rehabilitation. It is opening up a more inclusive and effective recovery process.

Assistive Technologies in Neurorehabilitation: Enhancing Independence

Assistive technologies in brain recovery are:

  • Augmented Reality Tools:

Interactive renewal tools using augmented reality enhance engagement in therapy. Technological advancements introduce a dynamic element to the rehabilitation process. This improvement boosts patient participation. The result is a more interactive and practical approach to rehabilitation.

  • Smart Wearables:

Just such an amazing staff that makes you feel like part of their family. I’ve been going there for over 5 years now... and each visit I get the very best care and treatments that I have ever received in the 20+ years that I’ve been dealing with severe debilitating migraines. Since i started seeing them the number of my migraines has dropped from 15-20 a month to 2-3 every 3 month. I highly recommend them …they will change your life!read more

Dr. Askari was very kind and explained everything so I could understand. The other staff were nice as well. I would... have gave 5 stars but I was a little taken aback when I checked in and had to pay 600.00 upfront. I think that should have been discussed in a appointment confirmation call or email just so I could have been prepared.read more

I was obviously stressed, needing to see a neurologist. The staff was so patient and Dr. Ansari was so kind. At one... point he told me to relax, we have time, when I was relaying my history of my condition. That helped ease my stress. I have seen 3 other neurologists and he was the only one who performed any assessment tests on my cognitive and physical skills. At one point I couldn't complete two assessments and got upset and cried. I was told, it's OK. That's why you're here. I was truly impressed, and super pleased with the whole experience!read more

Since my first post my thoughts have changed here. It's unfortunate. My doctor and PA were great, but the office staff... is horrible. They never call you back when they say they will, they misinform you, they cause you too much stress wondering what's going on, they don't keep you posted. They never answer the phone. At this point I've left four messages in the last week, and I have sent three messages. Twice from their portal and one direct email. No response. My appointment is on Monday morning at 8:30am, no confirmation on my insurance and what's going on. What the heck is going on, this is ridiculous!I've given up... the stress her office staff has put me through is just not worth it. You can do so much better, please clean house, either change out your office staff, or find a way for them to be more efficient please. You have to do something. This is not how you want to run your practice. It leaves a very bad impression on your business.read more

I had such a good experience with Lone Star Neurology, Brent my MRI Tech was so awesome and made sure I was very... comfortable during the appointment. He gave me ear plugs, a pillow, leg support and blanket, easiest MRI ever lol 🤣 My 72 hour EEG nurse Amanda was also so awesome. She made sure I was take care of over the 3 days and took her time with the electrodes to make sure it was comfortable for me! I love going to this office. The staff is friendly and helpful. The doctor is great. I am getting the best... neurological tests and treatment I have ever had. The only reason I did not give them a 5 star rating is because it is impossible to reach a live person at the office to reschedule appointments. Every time I have tried to get through to the office it says all people are busy and I am sent to a voicemail. If they could get their phone answering fixed, I would give them a strong 5 stars.read more

Dr. Harney is an excellent Dr. I found him friendly , personable and thorough. I evidently am an unusual case. ... Therefore he spent a Hugh amount of time educating me. Let me start by saying that I have been coming here for years. Due to my autoimmune disease, I am in this office... once every three weeks for multiple hours at a time. The office is very clean and the staff very friendly. My only complaint would be there communication via phone. They aren't the best at responding if you leave a voicemail and expect a call back. I understand that this is prob just due to the sheer number of alls they receive daily. What I can say I like the best about the office are the people. Bobby who handles my infusions is great. I never have any issues with her setting up my infusions. She is very quick to reply to messages sent via text and if she were to leave then my whole opinion of the office may change. I also enjoy people like Matt, Lauren, and Jodi. I appreciate all that they do for me and without this team I'm not sure I would be as happy as I am to visit the office as frequently as I have to. Please ensure that these folks are recognized as they are what makes my visit to this office so tolerable :).read more
